Key Take-Aways from the iQor Trinidad Analyst Day

October 24, 2024

While the tendency among many BPO operators has been to de-emphasize analyst days over the past few years, kudos to iQor for bucking this trend.  Last week, this burgeoning outsourcer re-established its relationships with key influencers from across the outsourcing spectrum with a thought-leadership gathering at its site in Trinidad.  Ryan Strategic Advisory was delighted to be present at this summit, and presents below its take on the most salient points that came out of this session with iQor.

  • Trinidad is an established BPO delivery location – banish those outsourcing observers that say Trinidad falls into the emerging delivery destination category. As demonstrated at the recent iQor analyst day, nothing could be further from the truth.  In fact, while iQor is estimated by InvestTT to be the largest outsourcing player operating in Trinidad, this location hosts several global BPO brands that support end-users around the world.  Trinidad has established its CX and outsourcing bona fides, full stop.
  • Trinidad is a quality-driven CX destination – Trinidad’s total population does not position it as a location in which mass-market, transactional work can reasonably be performed. Rather, the extent to which higher-margin functions can be executed for consumers in key demand markets is the country’s true secret sauce. iQor was emphatic that agents tend to come to the table with strong levels of education and have an inherent cultural alignment with both North American and British culture, leading to warm interactions with overseas consumers.  Further, with a limited tourism sector, the BPO sector does not face the tight labor markets found in many Caribbean destinations, helping keep wage inflation at bay.
  • Government commitment is a Trinidad BPO accelerator – policy-makers in attendance at the iQor analyst day explained the need for Trinidad to diversify its economy away from natural resource extraction. To that end, they have placed an emphasis on business and technology services to drive more stable, long-term employment.  In addition to the previously mentioned focus on education, this has been driven by ongoing investments to facilitate international air connections, local public transport / road infrastructure and improved network connectivity to permit remote outsource working.
  • Trinidad complements iQor’s global delivery footprint – iQor is a global CX services player, with capacity in North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Eastern Europe. It has managed to strike the right balance with its Trinidad deployment, in terms of providing enterprises with a presence in the burgeoning Caribbean Angloshore, one of the most sought-after locations for niche front-line services in North America, according to Ryan Strategic Advisory research.
  • iQor is leveraging Trinidad for varied clients and functions – iQor has managed to maximize the impact of its Trinidad deployment, supporting end-users in a variety of complex sectors that include financial services, health care and retail. Given the level of competition for talent within Trinidad, due to a growing outsourcing presence, recruiting could be a challenge. But, the approach iQor has adopted in which it optimizes the onboarding process using advanced technologies to identify and vet the best possible agents has helped insulate against tight labor markets and drive the best possible hires.

The snapshot provided by iQor into Trinidad’s rapidly growing outsourcing sector shows an island destination that is clearly differentiating in the right way when it comes to attracting attention to its BPO value proposition.  Moving into 2025, it is certain that buyers of front-line services in North America (and from further afield) will be watching Trinidad with great interest, in order to see if it aligns with their own CX objectives. To be clear, this is not a mass-market, multilingual hub – nor does it profess to be one. But, based on what was put on display by the team at iQor, the Trinidad outsourcing ecosystem has every reason to be optimistic.
